Course Overview
The Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Hybrid Provider Course is a 16-hour trauma training course for EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital healthcare providers.
The course combines 8 hours of online PHTLS training with 8 hours of in-person hands-on training at the NAR-T Advanced Training Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Students learn to identify life threats, understand how trauma affects the body, perform critical interventions, and make treatment and transport decisions using a structured approach to trauma care.

What You Will Learn: XABCDE
PHTLS connects anatomy, physiology, injury patterns, assessment findings, and treatment priorities to real-world patient care.
X – Exsanguinating Hemorrhage: Identify and control immediate life-threatening bleeding.
A – Airway: Assess and manage the airway while considering trauma and cervical spine concerns.
B – Breathing: Identify and treat life-threatening chest and breathing problems.
C – Circulation: Assess perfusion, recognize shock, and support circulation.
D – Disability: Perform a rapid neurologic assessment and identify changes in mental status.
E – Exposure and Environment: Complete the trauma assessment while preventing heat loss and protecting the patient.

- Explain how trauma affects normal anatomy and physiology.
- Perform an organized trauma assessment using XABCDE.
- Recognize immediate life threats and set treatment priorities.
- Perform important trauma interventions, including airway management and hemorrhage control.
- Recognize and manage shock.
- Apply appropriate spinal motion restriction and patient packaging.
- Determine when rapid transport or higher-level trauma care is needed.
- Communicate and work effectively as part of a trauma team.

Important: Required online learning and course materials are not included with NAR-T tuition. Students must successfully complete all required online coursework before attending the in-person training.
PHTLS Provider Course vs. PHTLS Refresher
This is the full 16-hour Hybrid PHTLS Provider Course and is appropriate for students completing Initial PHTLS training or the full PHTLS Provider program.
The separate PHTLS Refresher Course is intended for providers who have already completed the full PHTLS Provider Course and currently hold a valid PHTLS credential.
Course Refund & Transfer Policy
If NAR-T Cancels the Course: Students will receive a 100% refund.
Before the Closed Enrollment Period: Students may transfer their registration to a future class at no additional cost.
During the Closed Enrollment Period: A 50% refund may be available based on the timing of the cancellation.
Within 5 Days of the Course: Registration is non-refundable.
