Initial EMT Hybrid Course Overview
Online EMT Training & Hands-On Skills Week
The Initial EMT Hybrid Course from North American Rescue Education & Training (NAR-T) is a flexible online EMT training program designed for students who are ready to begin a career in Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
This Hybrid EMT Course combines self-paced online EMT education with a required, hands-on In-Person Skills Week. Students complete the didactic coursework online, then attend in-person training focused on patient assessment, EMT skills, scenario-based learning, skills testing, and preparation for the EMT certification process.

Flipped Classroom EMT Learning Model
The EMT flipped classroom model allows students to build core knowledge online before attending the hands-on training portion of the course.
During Skills Week, class time is used to strengthen understanding, correct misconceptions, practice real EMT skills, and apply learning through patient care scenarios.
This approach helps students build confidence before moving into skills testing, ride-alongs, and the next steps in the EMT certification pathway.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of the Initial EMT Hybrid Course, students will be prepared to:
- Complete the required Initial EMT didactic education.
- Prepare for the National Registry EMT cognitive exam.
- Complete required state-approved EMT skills testing or psychomotor requirements, where applicable.
- Upload required student documentation and verify education eligibility.
- Complete online coursework, hands-on training, testing, and clinical requirements.
- Build the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level Emergency Medical Services practice.
Course Structure
The Hybrid EMT Course is divided into two main parts.
1. Online EMT Course
The online portion provides the foundation for EMT knowledge, patient assessment, emergency care concepts, and test preparation. Students complete online modules at their own pace using the NAR-T learning platform.
2. In-Person EMT Skills Week
After completing the required online coursework, students attend a required hands-on Skills Week at an approved training location.

Student Assessment & Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the course, students must:
Course Average
Maintain a minimum 80% overall course average.Midterm Exam
Pass the midterm exam with at least 75%.Final Exam
Pass the final exam with at least 75%.- Complete all required online modules and learning activities.
- Complete the required In-Person Skills Week.
- Complete required ride-along or clinical requirements, where applicable.
- Meet all course documentation and completion requirements.
EMT Skills Week Locations
Greer, South Carolina
5-Day Hands-On Skills Week
Scheduled during odd-numbered months throughout the year.- 3 Days: Hands-on EMT skills practice and integrated patient care scenarios.
- 1 Day: Field ride-along with a local EMS agency scheduled by NAR-T.
- 1 Day: Psychomotor skills testing and final practical evaluations.
Las Vegas, Nevada
4-Day Hands-On Skills Week
Scheduled monthly throughout the year, except December.- 3 Days: Hands-on EMT skills practice and integrated patient care scenarios.
- 1 Day: Psychomotor skills testing and final practical evaluations.
Ride-Along & Clinical Observation Note:
NAR-T schedules all required ride-along and clinical observation hours through approved training partners.
For Las Vegas Skills Week, ride-alongs are completed outside of the 4-day Skills Week and may be scheduled immediately after registering for your Skills Week.
For Greer, South Carolina Skills Week, required ride-along and clinical observation time is scheduled and incorporated into Skills Week.
Students may complete additional ride-along time with their own EMS agency if approved; however, those hours do not count toward the required program clinical observation hours unless scheduled through NAR-T.
On-Demand EMT Course Access
Students receive on-demand access to course materials through the online learning platform. This allows students to study from almost anywhere using a phone, tablet, or computer.

Skills Week is the required hands-on portion of your online EMT training. During Skills Week, students practice and demonstrate the EMT skills learned online through guided skills labs, patient assessment practice, realistic EMS simulations, and scenario-based training.

Skills Week Registration Requirements
To register for EMT Skills Week, students must first complete all required online EMT course modules, maintain a minimum 80% overall course average, and pass both the Midterm Exam and Final Exam.
Important: Once these requirements are met, Skills Week registration will open and students may enroll in an available session, provided registration is open and the session is at least 30 days away.
In-Person Skills Week is a required step in the Initial EMT Hybrid Course and helps prepare students for EMT skills testing, clinical readiness, and confident entry-level performance in the field.
